Moorten Botanical Garden

You came to the Golden State for fun and relaxing getaway full of year-round California warmth and sun, surrounded by the mountains. Enjoy a little peace and serenity with a visit to the botanical garden. Surround yourself with native plants and a soothing atmosphere at the Moorten Botanical Garden.

The Garden

Established in 1938, the privately-owned arboretum features desert trees, plants, and cacti from around the world. The garden is on the private residential estate of the Moorten family, with more than just cacti. You’ll spot glistening crystals, colorful rocks, pioneer and gold mining artifacts, and even ancient fossils!

Location & Other Information

The garden is located at 1701 S. Palm Canyon Drive in Palm Springs. The gardens are open Thursday-Tuesday, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. and are closed Wednesdays. Due to summer heat, hours may be shorter during those months.

Admission is $5 for adults and seniors, $2 for children ages 6-15, and free for children five and under. Contact them for more information at 760-327-6555. The garden is about 1.5 miles from downtown Palm Springs and has street parking.

The “Cactarium”

The term was coined by the Moorten family to describe the over 3,000 varieties of plants from around the world designed in concentrated habitats along a nature trail. Some areas feature plants currently found nowhere else in the world.

Biomes

There are thousands of plants, from all over the world. Get to know them, as they’re grouped by “biomes.” Explore the Baja California Peninsula, the South African-Succulent Karoo, the Mojave Desert, and Mexico-Gran Desierto de Altar. You’ll also see agave, bombax, and even South African aloe plants.

Nursery & Tours

Private tours of the garden are available, but reservations are advised. You’ll learn about the garden, its residents, and more. Once you’ve finished your guided or self-guided exploration, stop by the nursery to take a succulent home with you to start your own garden.

Weddings & Events

The garden is a beautiful backdrop for a wedding or other special event. Contact the garden to discuss your plans, including time, date, number of guests, and all the other details that make your day special.
